About me

I am a third year PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at UIUC where I am working with Prof. Derek Hoiem on AI tasks at the intersection of Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing. I have done my undergrad in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, where I worked with Prof. Aditya K. Jagannatham on face detection, tracking and recognition in videos. I enjoy working on interesting problems and always look forward to collaborations.

My current research interests lie in problems like Visual Question Answering, Referring Expression Generation and Comprehension and Image Captioning which involve understanding of image content in a way that goes well beyond simple object recognition. I am also very interested in Multiple Instance Learning and Multi-task Learning. I have worked on diverse problems within Computer Vision and Machine Learning. My past research experience includes 3D reconstruction from inputs such as - RGB video, RGBD images, or a single depthmap along with a dataset of synthetic meshes. Barring the technicalities, the following quote captures the essence of what really got me interested in AI -

" Artificial Intelligence is the art of making computers behave like the ones in movies. " - Bill Bulko

I have recently been working towards improving my coding practices, in the process I have encountered several subtly rib-tickling but thoughtful utterances by programmers of recent times. I make my own humble efforts to live by these guidelines -

" Always code as if the guy who ends up maintaining your code will be a violent psychopath who knows where you live. " - Martin Golding
